When you are using a small storage unit, it is important to use the space you have available to you as wisely as possible. You could save a lot of space by positioning some of your items in a different way than usual. Instead of placing your mattress flat down on the floor, push it up against the wall so that you will still have plenty of floor space. You can stack your storage totes directly in front of the mattress to keep it in place against the wall of the storage unit so that it does not fall down.
If you are storing a couch, stand it up against the wall on the left or right side so that it takes up the minimum amount of space. Depending on the size of the couch, you may even be able to place some storage bins on top of it after you put it against the wall to save even more space.
You can make the most of the space you have available to you by using plastic storage totes with lids and carefully positioning your belongings.
